Brunson leads the bounce back as Knicks win two on way to Boston showdown
After that horrific loss to the Lakers, the Knicks get right back with two quick wins led by the captain.
Last Saturday night, the New York Knicks lost what would have been their sixth straight win, to LeBron James. Yeah, LeBron James. Then the Knicks would go on to defeat one of the hottest teams in the West, the third-seeded Houston Rockets 118-124. As well as defeat the Toronto Raptors in Toronto, 121-115 the day after.
Jalen Brunson to the rescue…again
After the Laker beatdown, it didn’t seem possible that the Knicks would defeat one of the hottest teams in the West. The loss to the Lakers snapped a five-game win streak, and the team’s look would have you believe another losing streak was coming, but no.
It was a gritty, dig deep win. And who can get down and grittier as any other player - yes, the one and only Knicks’ captain Jalen Brunson. This game was close at times, and the Rockets did their thing, but it was all Brunson in the second half.
Brunson had 42 points and 10 assists. He had 17 points in the fourth quarter alone, including the go-ahead three-pointer. Well, the three-pointer that sealed the deal.
Brunson is breaking records left and right
Brunson is breaking or in line to break records that are over 40 years old. Richie Guerin records! Here are the records broken and/or tied in his brief three years at the World’ss Most Famous Arena:
In this game vs Rockets he has his first regular season game with 40+ points and 10+ assists;
He’s had 70 - 30 point games, passing Julius Randle for fifth in Knicks’ history;
This is his 18th 40+ point game, passing Carmelo Anthony for third in Knicks’ history; and
with this game he passes Richie Guerin for most 30+ points, 10 assists game in KNICKS’ HISTORY!
Any wonder he’s a starter in the All-Star game
No, there’s no wonder here. Since day one, he was the Knicks’ number one player. He should be playing in his third ASG, but that’s okay. Unfortunately, as a Knick he may never get what’s due him. He’s going to have to always succeed exceedingly better than any of the others.
Brunson has signed up for the three-point contest and he’s on Kenny Smith’s team. That’s about all I understand about this year’s ASG, so again All Star Saturday night is the highlight of the weekend for me.
Knicks vs Celtics Pregame
This is the Knicks’ first chance to redeem themselves of that first game of the season. Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Karl Anthony Towns are all listed as questionable for tonight’s game. If even one of them doesn’t play, it sorely affects the team. Jrue Holliday is listed as out for the Celtics.
Miss Tee…
After the Lakers game, I don’t know what to say about this game except don’t play afraid. The Celtics have not been on their game but you better believe they are gearing up for this Knicks team. I believe the Knicks are better than this team. Quiet all the outside noise, and, let’s go Knicks!
Until next time…
