Now that I live in GA, who should I root for...the Liberty or the Dream?
Who should she root for?
I have been a diehard New York Knicks fan since I was 12 years old. I have always loved sports, especially basketball. And now, since I’ve been writing about the Knicks, I’ve been introduced to other basketball areas.
When writing for the Fansided publication Empire Writes Back, I was introduced to college basketball, covering Seton Hall and Rutgers. But mainly, I covered my New York Knicks.
Through everything, the ups and downs, coach after coach, players too old and no longer in their prime, getting to the Finals only to be swatted down. A superstar activist that only wanted to win in this city…and now, I’m hoping that they will continue to build with the young guys.
Changes
In October 2020, I moved to Georgia. Mind you, I dislike the Hawks passionately and feel sorry for the Falcons and all of their fans. I’m happy for the Georgia Bulldogs, but I don’t follow college football. So there was never a problem with being a dual fan of any sport between the two states.
Moving ahead to 2023. The Knicks have just had their most exciting season since 2012-13, going to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Now it is the NBA offseason, and I have been introduced to the WNBA. The New York Liberty is a superteam! With Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, Betjinah Laney, and Courtney Vandersloot. Also, all of the women of the WNBA are incredible! Each team with stars, so there is always a contest!
But then, for the first time, Atlanta has a team you can root for. The Atlanta Dream, with Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray. They’re struggling now but are a fun team to watch with rising players.
My team is…
Also, they’re a great team to root for if I were a Georgia native or if I wasn’t a huge New York Liberty fan! And you should be too. Catch the Liberty, and when you can, go to a game! Instead of fretting about the offseason moves of the Knicks, watch the Liberty kick some butt!
Seriously! I’m sorry that I wasn’t a fan of the WNBA earlier. I missed out on some great basketball! Well, I am now! So join me tomorrow at 7:00 pm when the Liberty take on none other than the Atlanta Dream (and I will be rooting vociferously for the Liberty) and Friday at 8:00 pm when they take on Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx.
Forget about the NBA offseason! Watch the WNBA!
