The Knicks come from 19 down to get the win in Miami
Knicks overcome a 19 point deficit to defeat the Miami Heat 116-112 in overtime.
What is going on? Did you guys hang out in Miami before the game? Seriously? Because for the first 40 plus minutes of this “trap” game, you Knicks were getting your butts kicked! The Knicks had to overcome a 19-point deficit to win. What the hell guys? I get it, a win is a win. But if it’s this hard to defeat a Miami Heat team, that’s without three of their top players, then forget about those top three teams.
When they come out of the locker room, what are they thinking? They’re not thinking that they’re going to kill it from the opening tip? Because it’s not showing in their play. The Knicks did not get the lead in this game until the fourth quarter. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
How they didn’t do it for three quarters...
This was not a Knicks’ nail biter where the lead went back and forth for four quarters. The Heat led until 2:56 left in the fourth, when Miles “Deuce” McBride hit a pull-up jumper to give the Knicks a 100-101 lead. Again, ahead of ourselves…
Kel’el Ware. Remember that name. He is a rookie center for the Miami Heat. This young man had five dunks in the second quarter, along with five blocks. The bane of the Knicks’ existence until Ware and Mitchell Robinson had a minor collision in the third. The Knicks could not stop this kid, this Victor Wembanyama, Jr. I don’t generally like to talk about opposing players, but this young man was doing severe damage to the Knicks…
For some reason, the Knicks decided not to defend the paint and allowed the Heat to get 56 points in the paint.
How they did it…
It took four quarters and overtime but the Knicks, in only Knicks fashion, got the win. It is their third in a row.
Of course it was the captain in clutch time to get it to overtime, but he’s getting a lot of help these days, and not from who you’d think. It’s OG Anunoby who’s been the first mate of late. OG had 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks. He shot 50% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc. He’s looking really good since coming back from that foot injury.
Karl Anthony Towns had his usual double-double contributing 19 points and 16 rebounds. But Bodega Kat, you can’t be doing those long passes and fancy behind the backs that become turnovers when your team is down by 17. And your name may as well be Karlmelo Anthony Towns because you’re not getting any calls, stop looking for them and keep it moving.
Brunson led the way with 31 points, he had 20 points in the second half, and six in overtime. Let’s face it, the Knicks go as Brunson goes, even when he’s on the bench. Production falls, and in that short time, they could lose a game.
The bench delivered 24 points, five rebounds and five assists. I must point out Mitchell Robinson. In his second game back, he had two points, two rebounds and one block. Doesn’t seem like much? It was when he delivered them that is what’s important. That pivotal third quarter where the Knicks outscored the Heat 36 to 25. Mitch’s two offensive rebounds were very much needed at the time, as well as his putback for the two points.
What’s next…
The Knicks will take on the Golden State Warriors on March 4 in the World’s most famous arena. The Warriors are currently seventh in the West and looking to move out of the play-in. Mr. Draymond Green said they’re winning a chip this season. Well guys, let’s not let him, Steph Curry or Jimmy Butler make or break any records in our house.
Miss Tee…
I can’t wait until Mitch is back full time. I can see the mayhem this man will cause. I do wish he would stop ending up on the floor. My heart skips every time.
These Knicks, these Knicks, these Knicks. This is not the way to beat the top three. I understand they won the game, and I see some of the players getting better, but no… they can’t overcome 19-point deficits in the first half playing Boston or Cleveland.
Well, Mitch is back, and while playing the other teams, I hope to see the Knicks use their big man and get their defense tighter. There are only 22 games left in the regular season. I believe the Knicks can win most of those games. And I believe their pride will get them through the remaining Boston and Cleveland games…
Until next time…
